Delores Boneta Bracknell, age 88, of Cibolo, Texas went to be with her Lord on September 23, 2020 after declining health and a short illness. Sis. Delores was born in Independence, Kansas on September 13, 1932 to James Howard Stilts and Merab Boneta Salsar.
At 10 years of age her mother passed away after given too much ether during surgery and left her dad with 4 siblings to raise. She was called on duty right then in helping with chores around the house and often babysitting her one year old Sister. She graduated from Trousdale High School Kansas in 1952 and married immediately after to Earl Vernon Burris in August 1952. Raised 3 beautiful children, Earl, Tom and Pam.
Her first job was cooking for harvest hands which she did 3 years in a row while going to school. Since she has worked as a nurse aide at a Catholic Hospital in Hutchison, Kansas, several years as a waitress for different restaurants. One job she worked at a factory where they converted vans into miniature buses and ambulances. She started out in upholstery, strung electrical wire, insulated them and did body work on the metal. In later years worked cleaning homes under construction, sold Tupperware, Stanley, Pampered Chef, Melaluca and worked at Tiny Tot Learning Center in Selma.
She went to the Assembly of God Church in Larned, Kansas, Great Bend, and then Hutchison. Then started going to the Pentecostal Church in Hutchison, Kansas. It was here that she met Sis. Bea Dean who was a true and precious friend to her until she moved to Universal City, Texas in 1986. She lived with her son, Tom, Mona and their 3 children. Mona was very special to her and often helped Delores with anything she needed. She loved her very much. After a short time she started attending Faith Apostolic Church in Selma which was her home church since her death on September 23, 2020. She was a faithful saint of God, Christian in all her ways. Everybody loved Delores especially her beautiful smile. She never liked to be late for church and especially prayer, a half hour before. She had daily devotions with her best friend, Jesus, and loved using the prayer list to make sure she didn't forget anybody In church prayer requests were asked for, her hand would go up, "Earl, Tom and Pam, my children and grandchildren". Faithfully she did this. Her voice is now silenced but is where she wanted to be and especially so during the last year. Many many times she mentioned, "I'm tired, I just want to go home". On September 23 she got her wish and is now in the presence of an Almighty God free from all pain.
Sis Delores was a perfectionist when it came to crocheting or knitting. She loved going to the Schertz Senior Center where she sang in the choir with the Silver Seranaders. Her passion was scrabble played with her friend, Else MacLauchlan, her Home Care Provider. She played countless games. She was very competitive and often won. She liked doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku. Once a month she went to Art class at the Center and has painted several beautiful pictures. In Kansas she enjoyed being a ventriloquist with her friend, Charlie and often used him at church and special occasions. The last time was at our Church Christmas Party 2 years ago. Was enjoyed by all.
She is survived by sons, Earl, Tom and daughter, Pam, twelve grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren, her two sisters, Laura Turner from Bolder, Colorado and Martha Wurtz, California. Preceded in death by first husband, Earl Senior, second, Huey Bracknell and father, Howard Stilts, mother, Merab; and her only brother, Byron
A special thank to the doctors, nurse and staff at Well Med in Schertz, Metropolitan Methodist, and finally Vitas. You were all wonderful in caring for her needs. God bless.
Special thanks to Pastor Joel Featherstone and Elder Featherstone, and all the Church Family for all their caring ways and prayer for our precious sister.
