Deena Marie Lehman, 65, from San Antonio, Tx passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior on June 4, 2023 with her husband by her side.
Deena was born on May 10, 1958, to Dan and Jerri Puckett, in San Antonio, Texas. Deena and Ray met at Wonder Bowl in the summer of 1979, got married on November 22, 1980, and shared their love and lives together for 44 amazing and wonderful years.
She worked as an administrative assistant at Tesoro Petroleum in San Antonio, Permian in Houston, and one of her favorite jobs was with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. After moving to Slidell, Louisiana she earned associate degrees as an Occupational Therapy Assistant followed by Health Information Technology. Deena worked at Slidell Memorial Hospital and eventually as an RHIT at Hancock Medical Center in Mississippi.
Upon moving back to Texas, Deena brought her passion for volunteering to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and spent much of her time at The Brookwood Community in Brookshire, a non-profit residential and vocational community for adults with disabilities.
Deena loved meeting new people and being a social butterfly; she never met a stranger. When Ray retired from Shell, they were able to move back “home” to San Antonio where she flourished volunteering with the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo which was a big part of her family legacy. She fully immersed herself in the Ambassador Committee, spearheading the Outreach Program and enjoying every minute so much so she remained active until just a few months ago. She was a member of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic church in St. Hedwig and the Rosary Society, following in her mother’s footsteps.
Throughout her life she loved riding horses, leading as Trail Queen on one of the many family trail rides and competing in rodeo speed events on her favorite horse, Popeye. She loved going to the beach and fishing with Ray, playing scrabble, and crocheting many afghans for her family and especially each grandchild.
Which brings us to her other passion, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Her heart leapt when she heard (almost back-to-back) that Jackie & Tony and Ryan & Heather were pregnant with her first grandchildren. There are four now, Drew, Nathan, Isabella, and Mila. And I don’t think a grandmother could love her grandchildren any more than she loved hers.
She was the most kind, loving, and joyful person who showed her family an unimaginable strength while fighting an unrelenting cancer (GBM). For the past two years she has been so brave, vowing to “thrive, not just survive.” And she has done exactly that, and all during that time she continued to worry about the well-being of others rather than herself, with her response to ‘how are you doing?’ always being “I’m having more good days than bad days!”
Deena is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ray, 4 children: Jackie, Ryan, Tony, Heather, along with 4 grandchildren: Drew, Nathan, Izzy, Mila, her mother Jerri and 2 sisters, Joni and Barbie.
Deena is preceded in death by her father, Daniel (Dan) Puckett, and her brother, Daniel (Danny) Puckett.
The Funeral Mass for Deena Lehman will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig, Texas. There will be a reception and celebration of her life immediately following the funeral at the church hall.
