David Thomas, Jr.

TSgt David Thomas Jr., United States Air Force (Ret.), the only child of David and Naomi Thomas Sr., was born on November 11, 1935 in Miami, Florida, passed away on October 10, 2014 in Cibolo, Texas, at the age of 78. At the age of 12, his father migrated to N.Y., where he met the girl next door, Eleanor. Growing up, Dave and Eleanor were not very friendly. He was the type of boy that loved to annoy the girls. As time passed on, Dave and Eleanor grew to love each other. David was very popular in school with a beautiful singing voice. He was voted most likely to be a successful singer. However David had other plans. After graduation he worked about a year or so at Peerless Camera store. In January 1955, David Thomas Jr. joined the Air Force and served in many foreign areas. David retired from the Armed Services in 1975 and moved his family to San Antonio, Texas. Upon retirement, he sent his resume out for Civil Service jobs; he worked at Fort Sam Houston as Data Operator, Internal Revenue supervisor of Data Processing. After a lot of thought and soul searching he went back to school and attended St. Phillips College where he graduated with a nursing degree. After graduation he was employed as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Texas State Hospital for 10 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed the art of photography. His parents, David and Naomi Thomas preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Eleanor; sons, David Thomas III and his wife, Myra, Arthur A. Thomas, and Adam G. Thomas; grandchildren, Courtney D. Thomas, Aaron A. Thomas, Courtney and Aaron's mother, Betty Brookins, Mary Knight, Pamela Gray, and Billette Johnson; great-grandchildren, Daryl Smith, and Eric Gray Jr. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 13, 2014, from 4:00PM-9:00PM, at Schertz Funeral Home. The Memorial Rosary and Mass will be on Monday, October 20, 2014, at 9:30AM, at St. Monica Catholic Church, 501 North Street, Converse, Texas 78109. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with United States Air Force Honors
