David Dennis

July 9, 1948 — August 15, 2009

David Dennis, age 61, of Cibolo, Texas, passed away on August 15, 2009. David was born on July 9, 1948 in New Braunfels, Texas to Charles Lincoln & Martha Altwein Dennis. He worked at Cibolo Creek Municipal Authority for 36 years assuming the positions of Assistant Manager & General Manager. He was instrumental in starting a reclaimed water treatment facility that sold reclaimed water to several local businesses. He had served on the Board of Directors of Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative since 1984. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles & Martha, brothers Charles & Richard, and sister Ardella. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Barbara Dennis, daughters Jennifer Dennis of Denver, Colorado and Melissa Dennis of Aransas Pass, Texas. David grew up on his familys acreage on Weil Road outside of Cibolo. He was a 1966 graduate of Schertz Cibolo High School where he proudly claimed the title of Wittiest in his senior class. In 1968, he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He had a longtime love of music. A few years after playing drums in the high school marching band, he took a job as a drummer for a local band, George Chambers and the Country Gentlemen. He went on to play with them for 17 years. He still had a set of drums set up at home that he played several times a week. David was a cowboy at heart. In 1990 he bought his first herd of cows and tended to them up to the time of his death. He loved his tractor; much of his free time was spent hauling hay and shredding fields. He was an avid hunter and looked forward to every fall when he went to the mountains looking for that trophy animal. Most of all, on those trips he enjoyed the fellowship of spending time with his friends and fellow hunters. David was a man of many projects. His latest was moving an old 2-story barn that sat behind where David grew up down to his backyard. With help from a few friends, he was in the process of restoring it. He spent many hours under the shed roof with his friends and family. He was a devoted husband and father to his family; he never met a stranger and was a friend to all. Visitation will be held at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, August 17, 2009 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at St. Paul Evangelical Church in Cibolo.
