David Burleson

David Grant Burleson, 72, was born in Chickasha, OK on December 19, 1945, to Wilbert Lee and Darlene Ruth (Waterbury) Burleson. He was welcomed into the presence of his Savior Jesus Christ on August 18, 2018. He graduated from Wellston, OK High School in 1964 and married his high school sweetheart Martha Eileen Pool in 1966. They enjoyed 52 years of a delightful marriage. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's in biochemistry and then completed a doctor of philosophy in biochemistry at Duke University. He served his country for 26 years retiring as a Colonel in the U.S. Army in San Antonio, Texas. Afterwards, he taught chemistry for many years in the Alamo Colleges District.

David was a loving husband, a wise father, and an adoring grandfather. He was a good and faithful friend to others, making a positive impact on many lives. As a dedicated Christian, he served in a variety of leadership positions in churches throughout his adult life . During 2010-11, David and Martha gave a year of their lives to foreign missionary service in the country of Papua New Guinea. Since 1979 Fellowship Bible Church of New Braunfels has been their family's church home. David was serving as administrative pastor until his illness forced him to give up that ministry a few months before his death.

David is survived by his wife, son Neil (Becky) and grandchildren: Benjamin (fiancée DakotaKate Lamkin), Andrew, Michael, Katie, and Cara) and son Brian (Holly) and grandchildren: Megan and Ashley. He is also survived by siblings: Rosa Lee Swafford (Virgil), Charlotte Fouquet (Ola Bon), Angela Tedesco (John), and Dan Burleson (Margaret).

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 21, from 5:00pm-7:30pm at Schertz Funeral Home: 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, Texas 78154. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 25, 2:00pm at Fellowship Bible Church: 4026 Morningside Dr., New Braunfels, Texas 78132. A Graveside Service will be on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 1:30pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in David's memory to an Ethnos360 project through the church listed above. The project is the building of Ramu Valley Academy, a secondary school for national children in Papua New Guinea.
