Darryl Dominguez

June 27, 1948 — December 6, 2014

Darryl Anthony Dominguez was born June 27, 1948 in San Antonio, TX to Martin and Jo Nell (Smith) Dominguez. He was the oldest of four children; siblings were Martin "Andy" Dominguez, John R. "Johnny" Dominguez (Adela) and Martha Schiffman. He attended Highlands HS, class of 1966. He then attended Texas A & I Univ. Kingsville, TX, where he met his wife, Margie Pargmann Dominguez on a blind date. They married in Runge, TX on June 6, 1970. While on their honeymoon they toured the Astrodome and saw Gill Hodges as he got out of a cab in front of the Astrodome. Later, while attending box seats as a wedding gift at the Astros vs Mets game, he taught his new wife how to record the game on a score sheet. This was an indication of how life was to be, married to a man that loved sports, especially baseball. His career in transportation took him to many places in Texas, included Victoria, TX, where he owned his own Red Arrow Freight Lines Agency. Years later his career change brought him to a life in sales Scobey Moving & Storage in San Antonio & Killeen. He was a firm believer in quality service and received several letters of commendations from satisfied customers. In 2011 he retired, after 24 yrs. in sales. His interests were watching sports, especially youth, high school & college baseball and football and reading about sports greats & Texas history. He loved reading the Scriptures and using his leadership skills for the Lord. Darryl became a new father on Feb. 2, 1976 when his son, Darren Ross, was born in San Antonio, TX. As Darren grew Darryl became his Little League coach fulfilling a lifelong dream of coaching his own son. He had coached other young men including his brother, Johnny, but nothing could describe how he loved working with Darren and his friends. As Darren grew older he played baseball in high school where his dad attended every game. When Darren soon found that basketball was his sport, Darryl supported him and followed all games. Darren came to his dad for his career choices and received loving, unconditional advice. He was Darren's best man in his wedding to Connie Ramos Dominguez. While he was in the process of starting a business in Victoria our second child, Jennifer Jo, was born on April 17, 1979 in Austin. He raced back from Victoria to Austin to witness her birth when complications threatened her life. Upon arriving all things went well. He soon found that little girls brought a new set of gifts. He attended dance recitals, softball & volleyball games but the most interesting challenge Jenn brought to this city boy was raising a hog for show. The tragedy was learning that she had to butcher it in the end. Darryl was so proud of her determination as she went on to graduate from college and then received her Masters, a first for his family. She was the only one of his children who was physically able to give her kidney in exchange for another's to match his, prolonging & offering quality to his life. God chose to bless us with another daughter, born on Feb. 9, 1985. Darcy Leigh was the center of attention having so many people to love her. At the age of 11 months, with a high fever she required a dangerous procedure. Her father's strong love for his baby was unbearable when he had to wait helplessly and observe the procedure from afar. Years later, Darcy grew to have dad's wit and sense of humor. She met and fell in love with a man who shared the same passion for baseball. Darryl's proudest moment was getting to walk her down the aisle and the father/daughter dance. Then she and her husband, Clint Sansom, blessed us with two grandchildren. Nolan Nathan was the first to call him "Pops" and made him so proud. Pops taught him to always shake hands and look someone in the eye when you greeted them. Hannah Leigh brought such joy to her Pops. Her smile would melt his heart and a "kissie face" got his attention and a kiss every time. To his wife, Margie, he gave such love and devotion. Each day he told her that he loved her and would ask, "Have I told you today that I love you?" If she said, "Yes." He would say, "Well, I still love you." She was his traveling partner and navigator as they traveled the state of Texas, the Gulf Coast and the Hill Country being their favorites. To his friends he would have stories to tell, he easily made people laugh and he had a kind heart. To his extended family he would give hugs and ask "How are you, kiddo?" He took a sincere interest in their lives. Darryl, you fought the good fight, finished the race, remained faithful and showed Christ's love to all. Rest in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. Until we meet again, my love. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014, at 12:00PM, at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, TX 78154, with a Memorial Service to begin at 1:00PM. All services will conclude in the chapel. Donations may be made to PKD Foundation, 8330 Ward Parkway, Suite 510, Kansas City, MO 64114.
