Darrell Goemmer

MSgt. Darrell R. Grumpy Goemmer, United States Air Force, (Ret) born on July 4, 1947, passed away on March 22, 2012, at the age of 64. After serving his country and retiring from the Air Force, Darrell worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, retiring after 15 years of service from the Torres Unit in Hondo, Texas. Along with being a referee for high school basketball, he was an umpire for high school and college baseball. Darrell was a lifetime member of the Converse Lions Club and a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans. His parents, Raymond and Rose Goemmer, sister, Drenda Bryant, and brother Keevin Goemmer, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl (Zech) Goemmer; daughter, Caryle Smith and her husband, Jason; son, Darren Goemmer and his wife, Kristi; grandchildren, Delaney and Reece Smith, and Collin, Karlie, and Charlie Goemmer. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Schertz Funeral Home, from 5:00PM until 9:00PM, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00PM. The Funeral Service will be on Monday, April 2, 2012, at Schertz Funeral Home, at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with United States Air Force Honors.
