Darrel Martin

Normangee - Funeral services for Darrel W. Martin of Schertz, Texas will be at the Sand Prairie Baptist Church with burial to follow at George Cemetery, November 9, at 2:00 pm.  Darrel was born August 11, 1934, in the George community to Ben Roy Martin and Iradean Childress Martin, and died October 28, 2019, in Schertz, Tx. He was a resident of Schertz, Texas since February 2017. He was retired from RepublicBank-Oak Cliff in April 1985 where he served as Senior Vice President in charge of Real Estate and Construction lending.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Normangee where he served as an Adult Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Treasurer. Before that he served faithfully at Bethel Baptist Church in Jefferson, Windsor Park/Kiestwood Baptist Church in Dallas. He was blessed by the many friends and acquaintances that he developed in church. He faithfully read his Bible everyday and always kept it close.  Darrel served as president and board member of Neighborhood Housing Association of Dallas, Greater Dallas Community Relationship, and the EMC Water System in Marion County, which he worked to establish. He served in the U.S. Army in 1957-1959.  Darrel graduated from Normangee High School in 1953. He held a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and he also graduated from Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University.  Darrel will be remembered for his servants’ heart. He was always ready to help anyone in need. He had several dogs throughout his life, but none that he loved more than Baxter and Barnabas. His nieces and nephews always wanted to go spend time with Uncle Darrel whenever possible. Darrel loved children and young adults and enjoyed sharing his faith at many church camps and vacation bible schools. He loved playing games with friends and family. Dominoes were always out and ready for a game up to his final days. His family will miss his kindness, Christian heart, and everything he did for our families.  He was preceded in death by parents, Ben Roy Martin and Iradean Childress Martin, his sister, Doris Martin Walton, his brother, Doyle L. Martin and two nephews, Kenneth S. Walton and Dwight R. Walton, Jr.  Survivors include his niece and husband Becky and Larry Meek, niece and husband Susan and Arnel Periquet of Plano, niece Ann Neill of Hope, Arkansas, niece Leah Walton of Searcy, AR, nephew John Roy Walton and Cathy Smith-Sanders of Hope, AR, nephew and wife, Chris and Edessa Walton of Hope, AR, niece Hanna and Wayne Adams of Ragley, LA. Many great, great-great nieces and nephews that he loved dearly also survive him.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity.

Schertz Funeral Home of Schertz, TX will be in charge of arrangements.
