Daniel Mcginnis

July 25, 1949 — November 25, 2018

Daniel Leon "Dan" McGinnis passed away on November 25, 2018 at the age of 69 after a short battle with cancer. He was born on July 25, 1949 in Seymour, Indiana to Leon and Dorothy (Lakey) McGinnis.

Dan was a proud veteran having served in the US Navy from August 1967 - May 1971. He retired from the Civil Service - Randolph Air Force Base Commissary.

He enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour westerns but his greatest enjoyment was fishing in Port Aransas with his son and their friends. Dan was a very kind soul and never hesitated to put others before himself or lend a helping hand where needed.

Dan was a duel member of The American Legion Post 593 in Converse, Texas where he was also employed for the last 11 ½ years proudly taking care of his post. In addition to being a legionnaire and a Son of the American Legion, he was also a life member of the VFW Post 4676 in Universal City.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael McGinnis, sister Kathy Duncan, niece Stacie Duncan and grandson, Landon Elledge.

He is survived by his former wife and friend Una McGinnis; daughter Kimberly Elledge and husband Mark; son Kody McGinnis; grandchildren, Bradley Glasser, Aubrey Glasser and Austin Elledge; siblings Linda Sepin, Nancy Pullin, Tim McGinnis (Cynthia), Patty Boucher (Keith), 61 nieces and nephews and many other loving friends and family.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at The American Legion, 326 Legion Drive W, Converse, TX 78109 with burial at 2:30 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Dan McGinnis in care of Schertz Funeral Home.
