Cyril Dieter, Jr.

October 4, 1926 — March 17, 2018

Cyril F. Dieter, Jr., also known as "Bud", went to be with the Lord on March 17, 2018 at the age of 91. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 4, 1926 and was preceded in death by his parents Cyril F Sr. and Alice M Dieter, sisters, Joyce A. (Peg) Keith and Genevieve E (Jenny) Carroll. He attended Alamo Heights High School, played in the band, and participated in track and football before entering the military service in June 1944. He served in the US Army Air Force with B-29 Groups in the Pacific and also participated in the Atomic Bomb test at Kwajalein/ Eniwetok. Having been an Eagle Scout and active in Boy Scouts before entering the service, they utilized his experience to help set up and train Boy Scouts in marksmanship and survival. This was on a part time basis while he was stationed at Roswell New Mexico prior to leaving the service in 1948. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&I University, Kingsville, Texas in 1953, and then entered the professional engineering consulting field and remained a registered Professional Engineer in Texas throughout his life. IN 1988 he then went on to serve in the Federal Service as Chief of Design and Construction with the Base Civil Engineer at Randolph AFB TX until his retirement in July 2007. He was a very dedicated engineer and thoughtful leader and was very active in fraternal and civic organization especially the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed helping others and helped put on many events at the local VFW in Schertz. After retirement he took up oil painting and became quite an accomplished artist. He is survived by his wife Norma, sister Delores (Dee) Sharp and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the Schertz Funeral Home from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, April 5, 2018, 9:15am at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel, with the interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
