March 15, 1966 — October 27, 2014

Corey Richard Mitchell, age 48, passed into heaven on Monday, October 27, 2014 at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. Corey's passing was very quick and unexpected. Corey grew up in Pearland, Texas and graduated from Pearland High School. Corey loved reading, being creative, and sports. He was on the football team. He was also involved in choir and student government. Corey attended the University of Texas in Austin where he earned a degree in Television and Radio. Corey worked at a local radio station and started to really delve into his love of music. Corey always remained a huge Longhorn fan. Corey then attended St. Mary's University where he received his JD. He met his first wife, Lisa here. They spent many wonderful years together until her death. Although Corey would never practice law, he used this knowledge in his future endeavors. After school, Corey pursued many interests in entertainment. He managed bands for several years. Then, he began to pursue his interest in writing. He published his first of many true crime books in 2001. Corey was named a Los Angeles Times Best Selling Author. In 2003, Corey met his wife, Audra. They were married in February of 2004. They celebrated the birth of their first daughter, Emma Rebecca in November of 2005. They celebrated the birth of their second daughter, Sabrina Marie in November of 2009. Corey was a loving and doting father. His girls meant everything to him. Corey wanted to branch out in his career. He began helping Philip Anselmo with his autobiography. Corey and Philip also began a film festival in Austin that brought together great films and great music. Corey died the day after the second film festival ended in Austin. Corey is survived by his wife, Audra Mitchell; his daughters, Emma and Sabrina; his mother, Carol Mitchell; his brothers, Kyle and Darrin and their families; his Pearland "brothers" and long-time friends; and his Housecore crew. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Schertz Funeral Home. The chapel will open at 1:00, and the service will be held at 2:00. All services will conclude in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital at St.Jude.org. Corey's daughters know he will always be with us. "He is up in the clouds watching over us."
