Colonel Richard Barton Morgan, DVM was born May 20, 1920, in Burlington, Iowa, passed away February 4, 2015. Richard married Lorraine Bess Morgan, RN, 1st Lieutenant (USA) (Iwansky) on March 8, 1946 and they were married for over 60 years until her death on August 22, 2006. Richard graduated from: High School, Ames High School, Ames, Iowa, undergraduate degree from Iowa State University, DVM from Iowa State University, MPH from University of Michigan, and Graduated from the Command General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was a member of the 10th Mountain Division during WWII, and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal. He also was in the Vietnam War, and was awarded the Legion of Merit. Colonel Morgan retired from the US Army having services for 27 years. Post military: Assistant Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois, and the Public Health Administrator for DeKalb Co. Illinois. Member of the Rotary Club in Sycamore, IL, member of the Planning and Zoning board for Garden Ridge, TX, Lions Club member, Shriner, and Mason. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, gardening and his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Barton Stowe Morgan, PhD, his mother: Catherine S. Morgan (Wallace) and his siblings: Margaret Sargent, Harold Morgan and Paul Morgan. Richard and Lorraine are survived by five of their six children; James Richard Morgan with wife Gail, John Barton Morgan with wife Dawn, Daniel Morgan with wife Jacquelyn, Nancy Lorraine Morgan Brickley (deceased) with husband Bill, Retha Ann Morgan Skinner, and Mary Margaret Haka with husband Josh; sixteen grandchildren, Jennifer Laycock (Andy), Ben Morgan (Leann), Jodi Stedman (Lance), Amy Tracy (Matt), Mary Blacharski (Andrzej), Kara Reiber, Katie Brickley, Kathryn Fahm (Morgan), Margaret Morgan, Barton Skinner (Jennifer), Lee Skinner (Tiffany), Jillian Haywood (Brian), Jack Henry Skinner, Stewart Haka (Caitlin) Nelson Haka, and Grace Haka and by nineteen great-grandchildren. Colonel Morgan will be buried next to his wife at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 16, 2015 at 9:00AM.
