Col. Michael Romeo Burton, United States Air Force (Ret.) went home to Heaven Monday morning, November 10, 2014, after a life serving God, his family, and his country. Born in Lynchburg, Virginia on December 4, 1963, he grew up with his parents and two brothers. Michael graduated from North Carolina State University; go Wolfpack! He was commissioned in the Air Force in 1987 and led a distinguished career working with Minuteman II missiles, missile warning systems and personnel assignments. Michael met the love of his life, Beth Johnson, in Great Falls, Montana and they had three beautiful children: Daniel, Emily, and Benjamin. He retired from the United States Air Force in 2011. Michael lived for God and serving his community, and remained strong and courageous to the very end of a long battle with cancer. He was an amazing son, husband, father, and leader who touched the lives of so many. He is an inspiration to us all and will never be forgotten. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Duane Lee Burton. Surviving relatives include his wife, Beth; sons, Daniel and Ben; daughter, Emily; mother, Carol Burton of Clinton, NC; brothers Jeff with wife Cathy Burton of Asheville, NC, Craig with Melissa Burton of Sedalia, MO; aunt Suzanne and uncle Floyd Townsend; mother and father-in-law, Vicki and Mel Johnson of Spokane, WA; brothers-in-law, Marty with wife Susan Johnson, Michael Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Matthew Johnson; ten nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog Lily. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 5:00 PM- 9:00 PM, with the Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 PM, at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, on Friday, November 14, 2014, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
