CMSgt (Ret) Eugene Clement Hayes passed into the hands of the Lord on March 19, 2012. Gene was born on September 28, 1926 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was proud to serve nearly 30 years in the military. Gene joined the Navy on April 17, 1944 and served until August 4, 1949. He then joined the USAF on July 28, 1950 and served until his retirement on June 30, 1974. He held a BS degree in Political Science from The University of Maryland. Upon retirement Gene worked 12 years in the registrar office at The University of Maryland, Chicksands AFB in England. Since Gene spent most of his military career in Europe, he enjoyed traveling to England often to visit his friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter R. Hayes and Ann T. Hayes (Annie), his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Mary T. Hayes (Maureen), daughter Margaret Ann Hayes (Peggy), and his three brothers, Walter, Jack, and Gerry Hayes. He is survived by his son, Walter P. Hayes and wife Danita, and three granddaughters; Danita Maureen, Caitlan Marie, and Elizabeth Ann of San Marcos, Texas; daughters, Colleen Dubrovin and husband, Darryl of Kiowa, Colorado, Teresa Hayes, Bill Carter and grandson, Brandon of Colorado Springs, Colorado and granddaughter, Athena, and husband, Jim Lickel and great-granddaughter Avery of Middleton, Wisconsin, and granddaughter, Charisse Hall-Hayes of Portland, Oregon. Graveside services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas on March 28, 2012. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to any breast cancer charity of your choosing.
