Cleora Brotze
July 18, 1916 — August 2, 2015
Cleora Beck Brotze was born July 18, 1916, to Edwin and Thekla Kopplin Beck at home in Bexar County on a farm about five miles south of Schertz. She was baptized September 24, 1916, at her parent's home by Pastor Carl Kniker of St.Paul Evangelical Church in Cibolo, Texas. At the age of 5, her family moved to Schertz. Here she started first grade and went through high school all in the same building. Cleora was active in all school sports, especially volleyball. Cleora met Elmer at a dance at OakGrove Dance Hall at Nacogdoches and Bitters Roads. After four years of dating, they were married September 1, 1936 in St.Paul Evangelical Church in Cibolo, Texas. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Wm. Aufderhaar from Community Church in San Antonio. Rev. Kuretch, the pastor at St.Paul Church was to be on vacation so he asked Rev. Aufderhaar for the service, since they were to live on Canton St. just two blocks from Community Church. Elmer & Cleora joined Community Church on March of 1947. Cleora was a devoted homemaker and mother, and a very active member of Community Church, serving as Guild President three 4-year terms and various other committees. She also served as altar flower chairman for many years. She worked in the cake booth at the sausage dinners from the time they joined the church. She and Elmer were very dedicated and shared their love with the elderly, and volunteered at the Eden Home in New Braunfels since 1975. Cleora, known to her family & friends as "Omie", loved to bake and cook. She loved flowers and potted plants, and was always ready to share them with others. Her flowers were part of her life. After living on Canton St. for 15 years, where both sons were born, Cleora & Elmer moved on a farm close to Converse, Texas, where they lived for 33 wonderful years. In February 1984, when the home where Cleora grew up in Schertz was for sale, they sold the farm and bought the home in Schertz, where they lived together for many years until Elmer's death in 2005. She then moved to the Eden Hill Communities to be close to her friends, and lived there until her passing on August 2, 2015. Cleora is survived by her 2 sons, Wayne (& wife Camille), Dr. Gary (& wife Terri), she also has 2 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, 3 great granddaughters, and 5 great grandsons. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Schertz Funeral Home. The graveside service will be on Saturday, August 8, 2015, 10:00am, at the Holy Cross Cemetery, a memorial service will be held at the Eden Hill Chapel, in New Braunfels, at 11:00am.
