Claude Arnold

Claude Earl Arnold, 87, of Kerrville, TX, formerly of San Antonio, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012. He was born on July 3, 1924 in McGregor, TX. He is predeceased by his parents, Pascal and Ina Arnold, his wife, Grace Earlene Shearer and infants, Russell and Cynthia. He is survived by his daughter, Pat Davis and husband Scott of Stuttgart, Germany and son, Rick Arnold and his wife Mary of Douglas, Nebraska; grandchildren, Adam, Erik, Maureen, Joe, James and Alisha; and six great grandchildren. Mr. Arnold served with the U.S. Army, Air Force and Navy. During WWII he participated in numerous operations, including the Allied D-Day Operation as a part of the 82nd Airborne. He was also a former P.O.W. from September 19, 1944 to May 10, 1945. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal, and a Purple Heart. Mr. Arnold was the former superintendent of Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Willamette National Cemetery, National Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii, and Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Keokuk (Iowa) and Seven Pines National Cemeteries. He was also very active in the Boy Scouts and Lions Club, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Schertz Funeral Home from 9:30a.m.-12:00noon. A Graveside service will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30p.m. with Military Honors.
