Christopher Preston

February 15, 1951 — April 2, 2014

In Loving Memory Christopher Lynn Preston, aged 63, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at his home in Garden Ridge, TX, as a result of complications of pancreatic cancer. Chris, the youngest of four children, was born at Great Lakes Naval Air Station on February 15, 1951 to Billie Dolora Crane Preston and Ennis Daniel Preston. Chris graduated from Highlands High School in the class of 1969. He attended Southern Methodist University and the University of Houston, where he received a Bachelor of Music Education. In 1998, he earned a Master of Music in music composition (with honors) from Texas State University. Chris was a public school teacher for over 30 years, first as a band director, then as a math teacher, and he served in the Fifth Army Band as trombonist and vocalist. Upon his retirement from public school teaching, he was a favorite substitute teacher at Keystone School. For over 28 years, Chris served as music director of Universal City United Methodist Church. Christopher and Deborah Preston married August 19, 1972, in San Antonio, Texas. Chris is survived by his wife, Deborah Bobbish Preston, his two daughters and son-in-law, Julia Preston Bucher and William Bucher, and Rachel Preston, his brothers and sister and their spouses Richard and Judy Preston, Pamela and William Cogley, and Michael and Tanya Preston, his brother- and sister-in-law Charles E. and Karen Bobbish, his nieces and nephews Kimber Fucello, Benjamin Preston, Jonathan Preston, Daniel Preston, Catherine Cogley, Christin Cogley, Jeffrey Cogley, Courtney Preston, Charles G. Bobbish, and Kerri Ann Polimeno, and their spouses. Special thanks to our families, church choir and homeroom, and Keystone friends for their continuing love and support. The family would also like to express their gratitude to longtime friend, Dr. Joaquin Gomez-Mira, for the care and support he gave to Chris, and to Dr. Steven P. Kalter and Dr. Jack Martin for their care. A celebration of Chris's life in music will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Universal City United Methodist Church, 90 Winn Ave., Universal City, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Chris's honor to the Universal City United Methodist Choir Fund or the ThriveWell Cancer Organization, P. O. Box 29331, San Antonio, TX 78229.
