Live Oak, Texas

Cherece (Cherrie) Smith

Peacefully passed away on December 11, 2024.

Cherrie Smith was born on September 3, 1953 in Pasadena, Texas to Wallis and Betty Smith. She attended school in Baytown, Texas. She was an Office Manager for two construction companies. She excelled in her work there and learned a lot about the construction business. She later worked for the Judson Independent School District. She went on to manage the Live Oak Dolphin swim team. Cherrie worked tirelessly with the team and was able to increase its membership from 40 kids to 200. Cherrie would go out and solicit donors for scholarship opportunities that helped the team flourish. This extraordinary leadership led to her being recognized with numerous awards including the Live Oak Hometown Heroes twice, and a vast amount of other recognitions for her work in the city. This is quite evident by her many years dedicated service to the City of Live Oak as a volunteer for over 30 years. Cherece was a long time member of the Parks and Recreation Commission. She enjoyed spending time with her family, being outdoors, taking her grandkids to get ice cream and hanging out at the pool. Cherrie was a very compassionate and kind person and was always there to lend a helping hand. She continuously dedicated her life to making sure every child felt included in every space they wanted to be in.

She was joined in matrimony with Cary Lee Smith and to this union was born a beautiful daughter named Crystal Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cary; parents, Wallis and Betty Smith along with her brother Barry, and her beloved “weenie dog” Frankie, whom we know is happy to have her back by his needy side.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter Crystal Smith, daughter-in-law Margaret Heller, two bonus daughters, Ana Johnson and Amber Williams. Her sister Mary Millard. Her grandchildren that will miss her dearly Isaac, Morgan, Crysah and Selene. Ernest Rosenbaum, a very special absolute best friend and “partner in crime”. Her very cherished boxer mix, Dasha.
