Charley Clyde Davis, III, 80, of Rochelle, TX, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, in San Antonio, TX. He was born on August 2, 1944, in San Antonio, to Charley C. Davis, Jr. and Dorothy Dee Rowland Davis.
Charley married Linda Bowen on April 19, 1980, at St. Helena’s Catholic Church in San Antonio, TX. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories.
A proud graduate of John Marshall High School (Class of 1962), Charley went on to earn his accounting degree from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1969. He began his professional career at Touche Ross in Corpus Christi before moving his family to San Antonio in 1971 to join Padgett, Stratemann & Co. He became a partner in the firm in 1973 and retired on August 1, 2004, after a distinguished 35-year career. In 2024, he was honored by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy for his 50 years as a Certified Public Accountant.
Charley was a dedicated member of the Associated Builders and Contractors Inc. South Texas Chapter, serving on its Board of Directors as the Chapter Financial Advisor from 1974 to 2004.
Beyond his professional life, Charley was passionate about his family, hunting, and raising cattle. After retiring, he focused on caring for his cows and raising calves. He enjoyed restoring his 1985 Chevy truck, affectionately named “Blackie,” and later sought out and lovingly restored a 1954 Ford Victoria, which he named “Vickie.” Charley had a playful side, often struggling with his mobile phone, which led to numerous pocket calls that brought laughter and fond memories to his family.
Charley and Linda were devoted to supporting children in need through the Unbound Program, sponsoring two children, one in Costa Rica and the other in the Philippines, for 13 years. Charley took great joy in writing letters to them and eagerly awaited their replies.
Charley was preceded in death by his parents, Charley C. Davis, Jr. and Dorothy D. Davis. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Davis; children, Deanna Davis (Pat Hart), Karen Davis, Tami Fenner (Scott), Lara Melancon (Mack), and Julie Davis; grandchildren, Justin Love, Kyle Davis, Allison Creech, Hailee Shook, Connor Creech, Carli Fenner, Claire Fernandez, Austin Akers, and Mason Melancon; Family by heart, not blood: Dale, Dayna, Will, and Ethan Prochaska
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Melissa Hunt at The Home at Baer Creek for her compassionate care of Charley, which was a blessing to both him and the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or a charity of your choice.
Charley’s legacy of kindness, hard work, and love for his family will continue to inspire all who knew him.
