It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Thomas Landers of Cibolo, Texas, aged 78.
Charles was born on March 26, 1947 in Warren, Arkansas - the youngest child of Thomas Evans Landers and Helen Nettie Ross. Although he enjoyed small town life, he eventually left his home after his graduation from Warren High School in 1965 to join up with the United States Air Force.
After four years of service Charles moved to Little Rock, Arkansas. It was there that he was introduced to Mary Ann Nash by a mutual friend, Sara Moore. Charles and Mary Ann began dating in September 1970 and went on to marry on February 13, 1971. The first of their three children, Tommy, was born in August of 1972. Two more children followed – a son, Brian, in 1980, and a daughter, Kristi, in 1982.
Charles’s time in the Air Force took him to many places – including Korea, Alaska, North Carolina, and Arkansas, before eventually making San Antonio his permanent home. Proud to serve his country, Charles retired from the Air Force in 1988 and went on to civil service. Charles worked at Brooke Army Medical Center for over 20 years before fully retiring in 2009.
A sports enthusiast, Charles enjoyed watching football, basketball, and baseball. His favorite teams included the Dallas Cowboys, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Texas Rangers were the team he loved most – even occasionally making the trip to Arlington with his children to catch a few games. Charles was a loving father, never missing a birthday, nor any of his daughter’s band concerts, and was always around when hugs were needed. Along with their human children, Charles and Mary Ann also loved their furry family, welcoming a number of cats into their home over the years. Charles loved to chat with friends, family, and strangers alike and enjoyed regaling others with his stories.
Charles will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 54 years, Mary Ann, his son, Tommy, his daughter, Kristi (Levi), and two grand-cats, Shadow and Buddy. He was reunited with his son, Brian, as well as his parents, Thomas Evans & Helen
