Charles Robert Strain passed away on February 5, 2018 at his home in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Robert was born on July 17, 1941 in El Dorado, Kansas to Charles and Myrtle Strain.
Robert grew up in a rural area outside of Salem, Illinois and graduated from Salem Community High School in 1959. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on September 4, 1959 and served for four years as an Air Policeman. He was last stationed at Whiteman AFB in Missouri with the 340th Combat Defense Squad. Throughout his lifetime, Robert has lived all over the United States. He was self employed for many years as a hairdresser and owned his own salon. For the last ten years, Robert lived in Puerto Rico, and prior to that he lived in the U.S. Virgin Islands. While in Puerto Rico, Robert worked briefly at the VA hospital. He was an excellent artist and painter, and an avid reader. Robert also loved to sail and spent most of his youth skiing.
Robert is preceded in death by both of his parents, and most recently his only sibling, his brother Richard H. Strain, on January 19, 2018. He is survived by his nephew and niece; Richard B. Strain and his wife Keli, and Julie Sharp and her husband James; great niece Shelby Stephens, great nephews Richard B. Strain Jr., and Garrett Stephens, and his best friend and ‘daughter', Sadie.
A Committal Service with full military honors will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 10:15AM, Shelter #__.
