Charles Snyder, Jr.

Charles E. Snyder, Jr, 86, of Schertz, Texas, passed away at his residence on Sunday, August 8, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Betty Lynn Snyder, to whom he was married for 54 years.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Abraham (David) of Cibolo, Texas; his son, Matthew Snyder (Crystal) of Souderton, Pennsylvania; Matthew’s children: Matthew, Jr., Kayla, and Aiden; and Beth’s children Khrystyna, Lauren, and Joseph, as well as their father, Brian Sweeney, of Mary Esther, Florida. Additionally, he is survived by one brother, Donald Snyder, of Mazeppa, Pennsylvania, and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Milton, PA, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Anna (Price) Snyder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Snyder (Betty), formerly of Highspire, Pennsylvania and sister-in-law, Janice Snyder formerly of Mazeppa, PA.

He was a 1953 graduate of Milton High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Library Education in 1969 and Master of Science Degree in Library Science in 1972 from Kutztown State College in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.

Charles served for 30 years in the Pennridge High School District in Perkasie, PA, mostly as a high school librarian. He was also a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, in Perkasie, PA, where he had sung in the choir; been involved with the puppet ministry; and served as an assistant minister, youth advisor, church librarian, and Sunday School teacher. He also held various church council positions and served on many council committees. Charles was also civic-minded. He was an avid volunteer at Pearl S. Buck International, filling many roles to include tour guide, librarian, and book club moderator. He was also deeply involved in the Pearl S. Buck Volunteer Association. In addition, Charles was an active member of the Church and Synagogue Library Association, where he was a book review editor; held different positions to include president, vice president and secretary; and led book workshops every year at the district and national conferences. More recently, Charles and Betty Lynn relocated from Sellersville, Pennsylvania, to Schertz, Texas, and became members of Triumphant Lutheran Church in Garden Ridge, Texas, in 2017. Charles’ family will celebrate his life with a viewing at Schertz Funeral Home in Schertz, Texas, from 5PM to 8PM on Thursday, August 19, 2021, as well as with a funeral service at Triumphant Lutheran Church in Garden Ridge, Texas, at 10:30AM on Friday, August 20, 2021.

A Memorial Service in Perkasie, Pennsylvania, will be held at a future date.
