Charles Horner
August 16, 1920 — February 21, 2012
Charles Wesley Horner, 91, formerly of Middlesex County, NJ; Hamburg, PA; and most recently San Antonio, TX, died February 21, 2012 in San Antonio where he has resided for some time near his daughter and family. He was a WW II veteran, a Pearl Harbor survivor where his ship the USS Helena had been torpedoed. He was born in 1920, Perth Amboy, NJ to Edward and Amelia (Friedrich) Horner. He was very active in the Masons, Eastern Star and the Rainbow Girls wherever he resided. He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel Marie Sneath who passed away in 1976 after 32 years of marriage. Also by his brother James W. Horner. He is survived by his children, Robert Wesley Horner and his wife Judith of Pinellas Park, Florida; his daughter Carol Horner Iacona and her husband Tony Iacona of San Marcos, TX; grandchildren David Iacona of Canyon Lake, TX; Peter Iacona and his wife LeeAnn of San Antonio, TX. Also survived by his sisters Ella Jacobsen, Virginia Weber and brother and sister-in-law Tom and Alice Horner, along with many nieces and nephews. He worked many years as an instrument technician for both Hercules, in Parlin, NJ and later for Honeywell in North Jersey. He proudly served in the US Navy for about 7 years during World War II, surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941 and the battle at Guadalcanal. Because of this, the family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made to Woundedwarriorproject.org. He is being cremated and at a later date will be interred with his wife at the cemetery at St. Peters Episcopal Church, Perth Amboy, NJ.
