Cecil Smith

Cecil Y. Smith, 86, of Bracketteville, TX, passed away on January 19, 2020 in San Antonio, TX.

Cecil Y. Smith was born in Randolph County, Alabama to Rev. William L Smith and Mattie Lee Smith on June 12, 1933. He married Rosa E. Besa on December 10, 1955 in Del Rio, TX. Cecil served 26 years in the Air Force. He was a proud veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War. During his time in the service he was awarded a Bronze Star amongst other medals and commendations. He retired as a First Sargent with the rank of Senior Master Sargent in 1978. Cecil then went to work for the New Braunfels Airport as a Line Service Manager. During his 17 years there he worked for New Braunfels Aero Services Inc., EGI and BNH. In retirement, Cecil and Rosa moved to Brackettville. He spent his time raising goats and chickens, gardening and hunting. Cecil was active in the community of Brackettville serving on the Kinney County Water Board and in planning the Fourth of July celebrations.

Cecil is preceded in death by his wife, Rosa E. Smith, his son William Alex Smith, father Rev. William L Smith and his mother Mattie Lee Smith.
Cecil is survived by his daughter, Karen Bell, son in law, Don Bell, sister Doris Spradlin, his grandson, Daniel Bell and wife Shelbie Bell, granddaughter Nichole Bell along with great-grandchildren Molly Bell and Dylan Bell.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30,2020, from 4:00PM-8:00PM, at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM3009, Schertz, TX . A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020, 1:30PM, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
