Cecelia Luensmann

August 5, 1933 — May 22, 2021

Cecelia Luensmann of San Antonio, Texas, was called home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the age of 87. She was born in Cibolo, Texas, on August 5, 1933, to parents Norbert and Louise (Zunker) Haecker. Celie was baptized on August 25, 1933, and made her confirmation at First Protestant Church of New Braunfels on May 25, 1947. She grew up on Sycamore Street in New Braunfels and attended the public schools there until graduating from New Braunfels High School in 1951. After graduation, Celie enrolled in Durham’s Business College in San Antonio, Texas and completed a one-year General Business Course in 1952. Celie worked as a secretary for United Gas Corporation of New Braunfels from February 1952 until May 1956. She continued her professional career as secretary to the principal at Kirby Elementary School from April 1966 until her retirement in May 1992. Celie married Johnnie H. Luensmann on July 8, 1956, and together they had a son, Larry, in March 1957. As a family, they spent most weekends trot-line fishing at Mathis Lake with Johnnie’s parents and family or in New Braunfels at Opa and Oma Haecker’s property, swimming in the manmade swimming pool.

Celie was a gifted musician on the accordion and trumpet.  She began playing with traveling polka bands at the tender age of 13 and perfected her gift on the accordion throughout her life, including playing during worship services at Redeemer United Church of Christ and for Luensmann family gatherings. It was always important to Celie that she shared her love for music with others - never missing an opportunity to teach and pass along her wisdom to the generations that followed.  Celie loved Judson Rockets’ Football, watching her grandsons play sports, and sharing a cold Lone Star Light/Happy Hour with her closest friends and family. Many of which would say these were some of their favorite times/memories with her.  "Spassmusein"

Celie was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Luensmann; and parents, Norbert and Louise Haecker. She is survived by her son, Larry with wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Matthew with wife, Heather,  Zachary with wife, Rachel, and Ethan with wife, Dallas; great-granddaughters, Nora, Hannah and Abigail; brother-in-law, Bill Luensmann with wife Phyllis; sisters-in-law, Alma Ploch, AnnaDell Luensmann, and Jeanette Luensmann; and  numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Celie was a devoted wife, loving mother and mother-in-law, and doting Granny – she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Redeemer United Church of Christ Cemetery in Zuehl, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers are Matthew Luensmann, Zachary Luensmann, Ethan Luensmann, Dwayne Albrecht, Warren Lampman, and Mark Luensmann.
