Carolyn P. Tate, 87, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
Carolyn was born January 3, 1935 in Fort Myers, FL to Charles and Leetie Powers.
Carolyn married the love of her life, Gilliam F. Tate in 1952 and shortly thereafter they moved to Paris, France where Gilliam was stationed with the United Stated Air Force. They were blessed with three children: David, Joseph, and Suzanne. They moved around quite a bit in the early years of their marriage before finally settling in Cibolo, TX in 1972. Carolyn spent many years being a military wife, mother, beautician, and eventually a teacher. Carolyn taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Special Education until retiring from Marion Middle School in 2003 at the age of 68.
In 1983, Carolyn adopted her daughter’s one year old daughter (Jennifer) thus becoming a mother all over again at the age of 48.
She was an avid reader who also loved to paint, sew, and crochet. In her later years, she enjoyed crossword puzzles and word searches.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Christopher) Mills and grandson Tate Smith. Granddaughter, Lori (Martin) Arce and great-granddaughter Dominique Arce. Two grandsons, Samuel and Connor Tate.
She was joyfully welcomed into heaven by her parents Charles and Leetie Powers, her husband Gilliam, her sister Marilyn, her son David, her son Joseph, her daughter Suzanne, her daughter-in-law Kristiana, her grandson Kenneth, and her great-grandson Gabriel.
Carolyn will especially be remembered for all of the countless lives she touched throughout her years of teaching in Marion. She will always be remembered for her fiery spirit, her generosity, her fierce independence, and her servant’s heart. Her legacy will live on in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Serenity Oaks Assisted Living & Memory Care and Good Shepherd Hospice for taking such good care of Carolyn in the final years of her life.
Carolyn firmly believed that life should be celebrated, not mourned. Never did she ever wear black to a funeral. The family asks that you please honor her memory by wearing colorful clothing to her service.
Funeral services will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Saturday, June 4, 2022 with the viewing at 10:00am and the service at 11:00am. A private burial will be done at a later date.
