Carolyn Lauricio Simms

February 11, 1937 to December 4, 2024

Carolyn was born and baptized as Soledad Aurora Lauricio in Sapangbato, Angeles City, Philippines to Bartolome Lauricio and Felicidad Timbang, both deceased. She had one brother, Orlando T. Lauricio Sr. and two half-brothers, Carlos Sampaga Sr. and Jose Sampaga Sr. All brothers are deceased. She has a large number of Nieces and Nephews and Great Nieces and Great Nephews. Carolyn had no biological children. However, she fostered four.

Carolyn completed the General Secondary Course at Republic Central Colleges, Angeles City in 1953. She added certificates in both Dressmaking and Fashion Designer from The Lorraine Technical Institute in Angeles City.

Carolyn married Airman Larry Eldon Simms on June 30, 1966 and accompanied him on his assignments. In Germany she attained the status of Master Cutter. She opened Dress Shops named “CS Originals by Carolyn” while living in the US cities of Spokane, Washington; Huntsville, Alabama; and San Antonio, Texas.

Subsequent to her divorce Carolyn relocated to Morgan City, Louisiana where she added a “Dynamic Dance Studio” to her garment business. She joined the Merchant Marine and was a deep-water welder as well as a chef on vessels. She was also a member of the Entertainment Group of Norwegian Cruise Lines. Morgan City awarded her a key to the city in recognition of her civic contributions.

Upon returning to San Antonio, Carolyn engaged with the Filipino-American community. She became a member of the Philippine Women of America (PWA) and dedicated over 30 years to helping the organization in its fundraising efforts to grant scholarships to Filipino-American students. She was also active in the Philippine Choral Ensemble, a member of Aguman Capampangan of San Antonio, the Kapampangan Association, the Karilagan Filipino Dance Troupe, United Filipino Association (UFA), Filipino American in San Antonio (FAISA), and Senyor Santo Niño de Cebu Catholic Church.

In 2019, Carolyn secured the PWA title of MS Senior Philippines of San Antonio. She held that crown until 2024 when she crowned her successor. She went to the State Pageant - MS Texas Senior America (MTSA) in Dallas and competed in 2018, 2019 and 2021.

Carolyn went to the National Pageant in Atlantic City in 2023 (as MS Nevada Senior America) and in 2024 (as MS Washington Senior America) and was the first Filipino to compete in the National Pageant. There she won the title of Ambassador MS Senior American 2023 – 2024 and repeated her triumph as Ambassador MS Senor America 2024-2025 by raising the most money ever raised for the Senior America organization.

Carolyn lived her life helping others and staying true to her mother’s lessons of life: Put God First In All. She was a great example of elegance and was highly respected by all of her pageant sisters.

Carolyn was admired by many for her passion to help many nonprofit organizations, especially in the Filipino-American community of San Antonio. Besides being an active member of PWA she has also been a strong supporter of the K Brothers Foundation, Inc. (KBFI), a nonprofit organization that helps the poorest in the remote areas of the Philippines. And the San Antonio Filipino American Chamber of Commerce (SAFACC), an organization for Filipino-American small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs in San Antonio. She recently joined the Organization of Filipinos in Texas (OFT). Her passing will resonate with all those whose lives she impacted.
