Carla Thompson
April 10, 1963 — February 10, 2015
Carla Joy Thompson was born April, 10, 1963 in Gainesville, Florida and passed on to be with the Lord on February 10, 2015. She was adopted by Carl and Shirley Thompson and lived in Alamo Heights with her Mom and Bob Jernigan along with her stepsiblings: Kay, Kim and Scotty Jernigan. The family relocated to Schertz in the late 1970's where Carla graduated from Samuel Clemens High School in 1981. After graduation, she moved to Mississippi to attend the University of Southern Mississippi, in Hattiesburg. She graduated in 1985 with a degree in Radio-Television-Film. Afterwards, she attended Mississippi College in Clinton, graduating in 1987 with a Mass Communication degree. While living in Mississippi, Carla enjoyed playing golf and meeting many wonderful people. One of her prize moments was when she met Gene Hackman at the Governor's Mansion while he was filming "Mississippi Burning". In the late 80's Carla moved back to Texas and began working in the hospitality field and loved every minute of it. She worked as an Event Manager of Corporate Accounts for various hotels including The Double Tree and La Mansion in San Antonio. In the mid 1990's she moved to South Padre Island where she continued to work as a Manager of Corporate Accounts for the Sheraton Resort. She had a place on the beach and loved her life there. She eventually moved back to San Antonio, married James Arthur Scott and had the most amazing baby girl, Carly Jane Scott, who she loved more than life. She wanted to provide a good life for Carly, even though it was a struggle at times. Carla never deviated from her unconditional love for Carly. During the last several years, Carla substitute taught at both Samuel Clemens High School and Steele High School. In the last two years she resided with Johnny Anderson and planned to marry him this year. Carla is survived by her beautiful daughter, Carly Jane Scott, of Schertz, Texas; her father and stepmother, Carl and Joy Thompson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; brother, sisters, as well as many extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, Dr. Shirley Mabry and stepfathers Bob Jernigan and Morton Mabry. Carla loved adventure. She was a stunning lady and when she entered a room, heads turned. People gravitated to her because of her loving, happy, kind ways and contagious laugh and all will miss her dearly. Carla's life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at 5:00 p.m. at Bracken United Methodist Church, 20377 Farm 2252, San Antonio, Texas 78266; 830-606-6717.
