Canyen White

December 9, 1997 — January 22, 2017

Canyen Matthew White was born to Kim Little and Brian White on December 9, 1997 and passed away at age 19 on January 22, 2017 as a result of a car accident. He was a resident of Cibolo, Texas and attended grades one through twelve in the SCUCISD. He graduated from Allison Steele on September 14, 2015. Canyen was employed by Gillman Honda in Selma and was in the process of completing his enlistment into the United States Army at the time of his death.

Canyen's passing has left a void in the lives of the many people who loved him. His wonderful sense of humor and compassionate nature will never be forgotten.

There was always something special about Canyen that enabled him to bring such joy to the people in his life. Even as a little boy, his smile could melt your heart. He enjoyed playing pranks on his family and friends, if he could make you laugh it made his day. Canyen especially loved playing pranks on his Mom. From duct taping her bedroom door shut to rigging clean water to spray her from the toilet, his mom never knew what prank would be next. Canyen and his Mom were extremely close, even as a teenager he liked hanging out with his mom . Canyen liked playing pranks on his little brother too. Hunter was much younger but they were very close and loved each other dearly. Canyen also shared a very close and loving relationship with his maternal grandparents; he loved his "PAPA and GiGi".

Canyen was also a loving son to his father. He was very proud of his father's service in the United States Army and was looking forward to beginning his own career in the military. Canyen shared his father's passion for cars, he enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking and being around water. He loved baseball, and played on a baseball team every year from age 6 to 16. He played on teams from Little League to the Select Team of the Cardinals, where he met some very special families and friends. Canyen also played baseball for Steele High School for two seasons and served as the one of managers for the girls' softball team.

Canyen's first job was working at Capparelli's Restaurant in Garden Ridge. He later worked at What - a Burger and then Gillman Honda . Canyen is held in high regard by his employers and is remembered as being a hard worker and honest.

Canyen is survived by his mother Kimberly Little and his 12-year-old brother, Hunter Benavides; and his father Brian White and his family (Soonah, Ana and Tyler). Canyen's maternal grandparents Richard and Bonnie Little, and paternal grandparents, Christine and Dan White, also survive. He leaves behind four maternal aunts and uncles: Tess and Wes Winkler, Richard and Sarah Little, Dawn and Paul Osborne, and Janie and Mike DuPlantis. He also has one paternal aunt, Terry White. His cousins are Lainey Winkler, Emily Winkler, Jeremiah Little, Mila Little, Damian Silva, Keifer Arnold, Michael Duplantis II and Michelle DuPlantis Housley. Canyen is also survived by his girlfriend, Hannah Wilson. For the past two years, Hannah has held a very special place in Canyen's heart and future plans. Canyen also leaves behind his best friend, Brandon Bassette, with whom he shared 16 years of friendship. Brandon became (and remains) part of Canyen's family.

Canyen's family takes comfort in knowing that he is in Heaven where his great grandmothers Emily, Nanny and Lillie most assuredly welcomed him "home" with open arms. Canyen will live on, not only in our memories and hearts, but also through the gift he gave to others as an organ-tissue donor.

Services for Canyen will be held at the Schertz Funeral Home on Saturday, January 28, 2017. Viewing will be from Noon to 2:00PM. The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Jeff Roman and will begin at 2:30 PM. Canyen will be remembered for his infectious smile and his zest for life. He would want his life to be celebrated rather than his death mourned. In keeping with the spirit in which he lived, the family is hosting the Celebration of Life Event immediately following the funeral services. It will be held at the Garden of Eden Event Center at 775 Tolle Road in Cibolo, 78108 (located off FM 1103 and Weil Road just down from Steele High School).
