MSgt. (Ret) Bruce Wollenzin Sr., age 81 of Universal City passed away Dec 12, 2023.
He was born in Ohio, Oct 12, 1942, to Ralph and Katherine Wollenzin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma L. Wollenzin, his parents and 3 grandchildren Amanda, Mitchell, and Emily.
Bruce is survived by his sister Doris Beccia and 2 nieces, Kathy Bayless and Natalie Henderson. 6 children, daughter Deborah Wollenzin, 5 sons and their spouses Bruce Wollenzin Jr. (Danielle), Martin Wollenzin (Valerie), Christopher Wollenzin (Jill), Andrew Wollenzin, and Nathan Wollenzin (Brandee).
18 grandchildren: Alexander, Matthew, Andrea, Andrew, Michael, Logan, Liam, Lexie, Barbara, Beverly, Marty, Payton, Christopher Lee, Spencer, Dylan, Taylor, Abbygail and Johnathan. 10 great grandchildren: Aubrey, Everett, Emmery, Jarret, Javen, Jayce, Joslyn, Jaxon, Lucy, Lennox and 1 great-great granddaughter Adalida.
Bruce served in the United States Air Force from March 23, 1960, to March 31, 1986, during which he also worked numerous jobs which included cleaning an elementary school and working at a Lone Star convenience store. Once retired from the Air Force he went to work for Civil Service at Brooks City Base from February 2, 1987 to July 29, 2011. Bruce was a hard worker and always busy, enjoying working on small engines, wood working, playing golf, and volunteering his time where he made a big impact. He started volunteering with San Antonio Livestock Exposition on July 7, 2004, and became a life member in 2006 with the Horse Show committee. He also volunteered with the Auction Committee where he set up the bars and served beverages to all the buyers and their guests and volunteered many hours as a cook with the Cowboy Breakfast making awesome breakfast tacos for San Antonians.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 6 to 8 pm with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 pm at Schertz Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30 AM on Friday, December 29, 2023 at Church of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Schertz, Texas. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
