Billy Sanders

Billy died on September 30, 2020 at the age of 83. He was born in Chapmanville, West Virginia. Billy is survived by his best friend and beloved wife of 60 years, Martha, and his two children Michael Sanders, and Carla Jo Sanders, his grandchildren, Jacob & Reid Sanders, his four-legged companion, Ginger, and his brother Virgil Sanders.
Billy joined the Air Force and was stationed at Lackland A.F.B. Texas in 1956. It was on an Easter Sunday at The First Baptist Church in San Antonio Texas that he met his soon to be wife, Martha. They wed in May 1959. Billy was transferred to Big Springs Texas for a year where son Michael was born. The next year was spent in Taiwan then returning to Andrews A.F.B Maryland, where daughter Carla Jo was born in June 1963. Billy then headed to Vietnam for a one-year tour. Returning to Charleston South Carolina for the next year then off to Ramstein Germany for a 4-year tour. Returning in 1971 to Randolph A.F.B. Texas where he retired in 1978 after serving 22 years. Billy went to work for CX Transportation in New Braunfels Texas for the next 23 years. It was at CX where Bill meet Frank Pender, who became a dear friend. In 2005 Mr. Bill went to work at Star Bulk in New Braunfels, Texas with Frank working together until his retirement in September 2017 at the age of 80.
Billy was a quiet, humble, Christian man who was liked & admired by everyone he met. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and playing pool. He enjoyed time with his family especially his two grandson’s Jacob & Reid. Most of all Billy enjoyed walks in the park with his beloved Ginger.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 5, 2020 at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel, 6:00pm, with the chapel opening at 5:00pm.
