Betty Wilkes

June 20, 1935 — November 7, 2013

BJ was born June 20, 1935 in Ezel, Kentucky and passed away on November 7, 2013 in Schertz, Texas. She had a colorful life bringing her spirit and tenacious zest for adventure into all that she did. Before retiring, BJ held jobs in a variety of fields including home health care, construction and metal work. BJ was always willing to give of her time to help others in large and small ways. She was very proud to serve as a volunteer teacher in Montana and loved when the children called her "Grandma BJ". She also gave generously of her time to her church and her friends wherever her travels took her. Indeed, she was loved and will be missed by friends and family in Michigan, Montana and Texas. Most important to BJ were her family, her friends and her love of animals. She is survived by loving children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and an enormous extended family that can imagine her piecing together a puzzle while her beloved dog, Ginger, sits nearby. A "Celebration of Life" will be held for BJ on November 30th, at Merritt Lakeside apartments in Schertz at 1100 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Schertz Animal Shelter.
