Betty Jean Wiederstein was born on a farm in the Laubach community residing in Guadalupe County on March 25, 1934, to Lydia and Louis Giesick. She was baptized on January 1, 1939 in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marion by Rev. Billnitzer and later confirmed on May 19, 1948 in Emanuel’s Lutheran Church in Seguin by Rev. Braulick. Betty went to Santa Clara School in Marion, Dowdy in Leesville, and graduated from Seguin High School in 1951. She married Ray Wiederstein on September 30, 1951 and then moved to the Cibolo area.
Betty worked as an Aide for 32 years, mostly in Special Education and Title programs. She loved children and treated each with the utmost care. Mrs. Wiederstein taught Sunday School and Bible School for over 40 years. She served on the council, Board of Christian Education, the Fellowship and was a Charter member of Evening Circle. Betty also loved working with her hands and sewing as a side passion. She made quilts for each grandchild and great grandchild.
Betty Jean Wiederstein was also a social butterfly; loving to socialize with family and friends, going to Country-Music concerts and dancing.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray Joy Wiederstein; parents, Lydia and Louis Giesick; sister, Eda Mae Schmoekel and husband Eugene; brother-in-Law, Eddie Burris; mother and father-in-law, Louise and Richard Wiederstein; and her son-in-law, Jody Robertson.
Betty is survived by her children, Vickie McDaniel and husband James, David Wiederstein and wife Linda, Diane Hunter and husband Darrell, and Rebecca Robertson; Grandchildren, Paul McDaniel and wife Suzanne, Jason McDaniel and wife Lainee, Jamie Rankin and husband Lonnie, Justin Wiederstein and wife Kristen, Andrew Hunter and wife Rachel, Tammy Allen and husband Kent, Darrell Hunter and wife Shauna, Cody Robertson and Trevor Robertson; Great Grandchildren, Emmy and Nicholas McDaniel, Jaycee and Kaitlynn McDaniel, Madison and Macie Rankin, Daylin and Kayleigh Wiederstein, Maya and Hunter Allen, Kerstynn Grobe, Hayden, Peyton and Brody Hunter, Bryce, Wyatt and Luke Hunter; one sister, Dorothy Burris; nephew, Michael Burris; and her nieces; Kathleen Pierce, Barbara Phumphrey, Marilyn Lubbering and Peggy Schmoekel.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at the Schertz Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00PM. Private interment will follow at Redeemer United Church Cemetery.
