Betty Shafer

November 6, 1935 — May 26, 2012

Betty Lou Shafer, longtime resident of Universal City and Schertz, Texas, passed away May 26, 2012 after a courageous 8 year battle with ovarian cancer. Betty was born on November 6, 1935 in Urbana, IL. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Shafer and her parents Lou and Colletta Baker. Betty is survived by her five children, Debra Shafer of Fairfax, VA, Kathy Gustin of Las Vegas, NV, Karen Finley of San Antonio, TX, DeDe Schreffler of Schertz, TX, and Mike Shafer of Dallas, TX. She has five grandchildren Tiffany Herrgott, Levi Wolfe, Crystal Wolfe, Vanessa Wagner, Marin Shafer and two great grandchildren Brady and Bentley Herrgott. Betty is the sister of Jim Baker of Schertz, TX and Mary Margaret Miebach of Philo, IL. After 36 years of Government Service, Betty retired from The Air Force Agency in 2002. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be held at 7 p.m. at The Schertz Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held in Betty's honor at 12:00PM on Thursday, May 31 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma, TX. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
