Betty Louise Ford (Mema) Lamer, age 92, a resident of Cibolo, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
Betty Lousie Lamer, our Mema, was born and named Lucy May Abshire by her birth parents Charles and Bessie Abshire on June 11, 1932 in Darlington, Maryland. Her birth mother died when she was 2 years old and Lucy was adopted by Carvel and Edith Ford and named Betty Louise Ford.
Her early childhood memories included enjoying going to the local horseracing tracks with her mother. She loved watching the horses run and talking with the jockeys. She also loved helping out at the family- owned restaurant in Aberdeen, Maryland. In her adult life she worked at local industries in the Sumter South Carolina area. Upon retirement, Mema moved to the Cibolo area and lived with daughter Edie’s family for over 29 years, helping to raise the families three children. Her daily agenda included numerous trips to the back door letting dogs in and out before a doggie door was installed.
She was previously married to Richard Anthony Lamer (deceased). They were blessed with five children.
Mema was an avid volunteer at several elementary and middle schools in the Cibolo area, and was named the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City School District Volunteer of the Year. She also volunteered at Randolph Elementary School. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Faithful Friends ministry in Selma, Texas and a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd Catholic parish in Schertz, Texas. Mema also loved to get her orange gear on and cheer for her Clemson Tigers football team. Her green thumb was displayed with her many plants she attended to and nourished.
Mema has three surviving children, Mary Elizabeth Bonney (Robert), Edyth Louise Gross (Dale), and Judith Marie Brabham (Woodrow); eight grandchildren; Andrea Lamer Morris (Donald, deceased), Matthew Douglas Lamer, Toni Michelle Lamer, Anna Christine Gross, Abigail Elizabeth Gililland, John Paul Gross (girlfriend Alexis), Elizabeth Brabham Bouyea (Johnny) and Andrew Christian Brabham (Candace); seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sons, David Alan Lamer and Douglas Edward Lamer.
We are extremely grateful to Irma Perrill, Betty’s sweet caregiver, and also the Holy Savior Hospice staff for the loving end of life comfort and care they provided Mema and her family.
