Bertha Stroh

Bertha Clara Baumann Stroh went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2015 at the age of 86 years. She was born on the family farm in Wilson County on September 23, 1928 to Clara Bertha Nitsche Baumann and Willie Baumann. She was baptized and Confirmed in 1943 at St. John Lutheran Church in Poth, Texas. After graduation from Poth High School in 1946, she moved to San Antonio. She worked for the SAISD as a cafeteria manager at several schools, finishing up at Whittier Middle School, retiring after 26 years of service in 1992. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 61 years John E. Stroh, and brothers Joe, Ernest, William, Alfred and Conrad Baumann as well as sister Minnie Baumann Luebken. She is survived by son Glenn C. Stroh and wife Gayle and John Stroh, Jr. and wife Beth. Grandchildren Glenn Stroh, Jr. and wife Lauren and Amanda Kay Stroh. Step-grandchildren Shaun Hummel, Samantha Hummel and Mark Hummel. Step-Great Grandchildren include Justin Taylor, Shawn Taylor, Hannah Deen, Brooke Martinez, Brycen Hummel and Aiden J. Hummel. She is also survived by Sister-in-law Velma Gaedke, 2 Nieces, 4 Nephews and a host of friends. Bertha will always be remembered as a loving and devoted daughter, wife and mother as well as a fun and loving Grandma to her grandchildren. Special thanks to Dr. Francis Mueller for his excellent care and compassion as well as the loving and caring staff of Adante Assisted Living Memory Care Unit for all of the love and care shown to Bertha as she battled a long, hard battle with Alzheimer's. We also want to thank Encompass Hospice for the loving care during her final days. She is now free of all her pain and suffering. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Schertz Funeral Home located on FM 3009 in Schertz, Texas with the family present from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services for Bertha Stroh will be on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church, FM 465 in Marion, Texas beginning at 10:00 am. Burial to follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Marion. A reception will follow at the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church Organ Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association.
