Delbert A. (Del) Wersebe, CPO, United States Navy (Ret), 82, of Schertz, TX, passed away on October 21, 2011. Delbert was born in San Antonio, TX, to Fred and Cora Mae Wersebe on June 10, 1929. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Fred and Daniel and his sisters, Francis and Delma. Del is survived by his wife of 52 years, Regina, of Schertz, TX, and his sister, Joann Leifeste of Universal City, TX. He is also survived by his boyhood friend of 81 years, John Wright of San Antonio. Del was very proud of his 26 years of service to his country in the United States Navy (Navigation) where he was assigned to a variety of ships ranging from tugs to the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) as Chief Quartermaster. Del was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Canary Island Descendents Association and the Schertz Police Department Alumni. He possessed a genuine love and a dedication to his many friends, his community and country. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, TX 78154. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Following funeral services, a Committal Service, with full military honors, will be held at 1:45 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: a charity of your choice, Schertz EMS, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, TX 78154 or to the Church of the Good Shepherd Building Fund, 1065 Live Oak Road, Schertz, TX 78154.
