Basil Mcdaris

April 10, 1930 — August 25, 2016

SMSgt Basil Glen McDaris, age 86, born April 10, 1930 and residing in the city of Schertz, Texas since 1973. He was born in Inola, Oklahoma to parents, Mr. and Mrs. Basil Francis Earl McDaris, brothers, James Kelly McDaris, John Dwayne McDaris, Bobby Joe McDaris and sister, Phyllis McDaris Vloedman. He married his high school sweetheart, Dolly Marie Crow. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the military and retired after 28 years of honorable service. Working as an airplane mechanic was his initial job in the Air Force. Service to his country included serving in Japan, the Azores, Thailand, California, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Nebraska and Texas. After military retirement he worked as a Supervisor for the United States Postal Service and retired after 15 years of service. His love and interest was always about family being first. His talents were endless. There was nothing he could not accomplish. He enjoyed working with his hands and working on cars was his favorite hobby. HE was friend to mankind. He is survived by his sons, Michael McDaris and wife, Marlene of Cibolo, Texas; Mark McDaris of Schertz, Texas and daughters, Janna McDaris of Schertz, Texas and Rhonda Jean McDaris of Lytle, Texas; sister, Phyllis Vloedman of Katy, Texas; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. He is predeceased in death by his wife, Dollie Marie McDaris; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Basil Francis Earl McDaris; and brothers, James Kelly McDaris, John Dwayne McDaris and Bobby Joe McDaris. He was an honorable man. He loved his family and honored his country.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm at Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Friday, September 2, 2016 at 9:30am at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, will full military honors at 11:15am.
