Ms. Barbara Mary Moskaluk-Hunter, 86, died Friday, August 30, 2019, at Brooks Army Medical Center (BAMC) on Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Ms. Moskaluk-Hunter was born June 18, 1933, in Waterbury, Connecticut, daughter of late Peter and Stella (Parzych) Moskaluk. She was a graduate of Thomaston High School Class of 1951. A year after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Edward B. Hunter, Thomaston High School Class of 1950 and moved to Denver, Colorado where Ed was stationed with the U.S.A.F. After 36 years, their marriage ended in a divorce in 1990. During her years as a military wife, she lived in Colorado, New York, Germany, Montana, California, Missouri, and Texas.
She grew up next to her grandparent’s house on Prospect Street in Thomaston, Connecticut, and after her divorce she was able to purchase her grandparent’s home with her sister, Shirley Giroux and her husband Roger Giroux. They enjoyed living so close to each other until Shirley’s passing in July, 2012. Barbara moved to Texas to be closer to her daughter, Suzanne, and her family, and her oldest son, David. She lived in her own apartment for 3 years before moving in with her daughter.
Barbara had many jobs during her lifetime. During high school she was a secretary/office worker at Scoville’s in Waterbury, Connecticut. She was a stay at home mom, and a professional cake decorator while living in Missouri. She was a manager and then business owner of New Day Personnel Consultants in San Antonio, Texas. After moving back to Connecticut, she was a Retail Merchandiser for American Greetings.
Her hobbies included ceramics, cake decorating, eggery, embroidering using a sewing machine, and scrapbooking even before scrapbooking was popular. She won a first-place ribbon for cake decorating at the Missouri State Fair in 1972, won two second-place ribbons at the International Egg Show in Dallas, Texas in 1986, and won a first-place ribbon in 1987 also in Dallas.
Barbara was proceeded in death by her father, Peter Moskaluk and her mom, Stella (Parzych) Moskaluk, her son, Edward (Eddy) Hunter, and her sister, Shirley Giroux. She leaves behind her two sons, David Hunter, of San Antonio, Texas, Mark Hunter and his wife Sue of Woodbridge, Virginia, and her daughter, Suzanne Frollini and her husband, Kenneth, of Garden Ridge, Texas. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held in both, Texas and Connecticut. The Schertz, Texas service will be held at the Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009 on Thursday, September 5th. Visitation will occur at 1:00 p.m. and services will start at 2:00. The Watertown, Connecticut visitation will occur at the Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St. on Monday, September 9th at noon with a graveside service to follow. She will be interred at the St. Thomas Cemetery in Thomaston, Connecticut.
