Barbara Cheney

November 6, 1944 — August 21, 2021

Isaiah 66:13 “ As a mother comforts her child, so now will I comfort you.”

Barbara Cheney, 76, of San Antonio Texas returned to her heavenly father on the morning of August 21st,
2021. Barbara was born on Nov 6, 1944, to Meltair Grant Workman and Beth Bardsley Workman in Delta, Utah. Barbara was a kind-hearted spirit whose passions were education, reading, and family. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge and love of literacy with others.
She graduated from Granger High School in Salt Lake City where she was active in the Pep Squad.

Barbara fulfilled a two-year mission for the LDS church serving in and around Cleveland OH.
Upon her return, she earned her M.A. from Weber State University and began her long successful career
as an educator. Her path led her to Tacoma, WA where she met Perry Scott Cheney at a military ball at Ft Lewis. They were married in 1972 and soon after, relocated to San Antonio where they both continued their careers. Later they were blessed as they adopted
two wonderful daughters; Becky and Shelley.
Barbara taught for many years at the Ft Sam Houston ISD teaching reading until her illness made it difficult
to continue. She then worked at Harcourt. Wherever she was she was revered and admired by her students and colleagues.

Barbara was selfless with her friends, family, students, co-workers, and others. In return, she was loved
and admired by many. She was a fighter to the end and epitomized strength, hope, optimism, and most importantly, love.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents and her ex-husband.
She is survived by her two daughters, Rebecca and Shelley, and four grandchildren: Jordyn, Adyson, Emercyn,
and Caleb all of San Antonio. She is also survived by her brothers Richard and Stephen of Utah.

Friends and family of Barbara are invited to remember her with funeral services being held at the LDS church
located at 1142 FM 1103, Cibolo, Texas at 10 AM Monday, August 30th, 2021. Interment to follow.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Michael J Fox Foundation toward
the continuing fight against Parkinson's disease.
