Barbara Althouse
December 19, 1970 — July 13, 2015
Barbara Ann Althouse, born on December 19, 1970, passed away on July 13, 2015, at the age of 44. Barbara was a gentle spirit who loved reading, watching TV & movies and was a huge fan of country music. She loved following her favorite celebrities/performers and was a trivia wizard when it came to her favorite stars. She was very proud of the moments captured in pictures of when she got to meet a few of them in person. Barbara was very involved with the R.O.A.D. (Randolph Opportunity Association for the Disabled) organization and had participated with their Saturday bowling league for 20+ years. Even when she could no longer physically bowl, she continued to attend every week to support her fellow members and to continue to foster the relationships she made over the years. She always enjoyed the holiday parties R.O.A.D. hosted and she especially liked dressing in costume. Barbara's favorite holiday was Halloween, however, she was known by all to be the "Holiday Decoration Queen". She always had the house dressed for whatever celebrated holiday was about to happen. Barbara never allowed her physical and mental disabilities to get in the way of doing what she liked to do. She thoroughly enjoyed family reunions and get-togethers. She was the nurturing member of her social group, she was a helpful caregiver at home and she was always willing to offer her assistance whenever asked. Barbara's smile and kindness will be missed by, not only friends and family, but so many people whom she interacted with throughout her life. Her brother, Joseph Althouse, and her grandparents, Bernard and Catherine Cavin, and Ida Pearl Althouse, preceded her in death. Survivors include her parents, Tom and Norma Althouse; sisters, Sharon Pennington and her husband, Todd, and Cyndi Cejka and her husband, Stan; nieces, Jaclyn Pennington, Ashley and Angela Cejka; nephew, Nathan Pennington. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at the Schertz Funeral Home, from 5:00PM-8:00PM, with a Celebration of Barbara's Life to begin at 6:00PM. Interment will take place in Kenton, Ohio at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's name to the Randolph Opportunity Association for the Disabled (R.O.A.D.), 325 Country Ln., Cibolo, TX 78108 (210) 658-0170.
