Audrey Joyce Saunders

Audrey Joyce (Williams) Saunders died 22 Jan 2025. She was born 1 Aug 1941 in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Richard Ernest and Jane Adeline (Galus) Williams. She married Mike Saunders 12 Aug 1961 in Long Beach, CA. Audrey was a Eucharistic Minister for many years at the various parishes where she lived. She also did Hospital Ministry for many years. She served as a Stephen Minister Leader and Treasurer of the St. Anne's Society at OLPH. Audrey was a beloved mother and grandmother. Audrey is preceded in death by her husband Mike. She is survived by her three daughters; Michelle (Jeff) Sultemeier, Andrea Saunders, M.D, and Jennifer (Gil) Hernandez; six grandchildren, Megan Sultemeier (Kevin) Young, Ashley Sultemeier (Luke) Erwin, and Ian, Cameron (Anna), McKenna and Grayson Hernandez; and three great-grandchildren, Hayden and Elaine Young, and Nico Erwin. She was predeceased by her mother Jane A. Rott, her stepfather Joseph C. Rott, her brother Roger Williams, and her grandson Travis Michael Sultemeier.

Audrey was a strong, giving person and a friend to many. She never knew a stranger and was forever on an Emmaus Walk spreading the good news to others. Even in death she is looking out for those of us left behind through this poem by Carol Mirkel: 

"I'd like the memory of me

 to be a happy one.

 I'd like to leave an afterglow

 of smiles when my life is done.

I'd like to leave an echo

whispering softly down the ways,

of happy times and laughing times

and bright and sunny days. 

I'd like the tears of those

who grieve, to dry before the sun, 

of happy memories that I leave

when my life is done."

Audrey was cremated and there will be no viewing. Burial will be private at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
