Arturo Michael Anthony, 55 of Schertz, TX, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2012 in San Antonio. Born on February 17, 1957 in San Antonio, he was the son of the late Alfred Anthony and Lydia Uriegas Anthony and the brother of the late Alfred Anthony. He is survived by his wife, Luise Kaindl Anthony, his daughter, Suzanna Lydia Anthony, and his brother, Johnny Anthony. Art proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for over 20 years before retiring. In his long career, he rose the ranks from enlisted to Major. He was a disabled vet who supported his country during Operation Joint Endeavor, and during Operation Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom. During his tour in Europe, Art also pursued a career as a teacher of English as a Second Language. He embraced culturally diverse settings. After his retirement, Art joined the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. He found great satisfaction in being able to help Service Members, past and present, families and survivors. Art was a loving husband and proud father, who especially enjoyed his daughter's piano and clarinet recitals. Art loved the Lord and served as lector, usher, and lay Eucharist minister at St. Joseph's Church. He received numerous military and civilian awards, and was a member of many professional affiliations. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 3, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Schertz Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Mass to start at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with U.S. Army Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Art's honor to the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.
