LTC Arthur Alvin Smith, age 80, passed away on December 31, 2017 in Garden Ridge, Texas. He was born on April 28, 1937 to Willard & Lillie Mae Smith in May, Oklahoma. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Carolyn Smith; daughter Lisa and husband Steve Sullivan; son Michael and wife Cynthia Smith; daughter Cheryl Langley and fiancé James Gryder ; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother Gary and wife Diane Smith; sister Jo Ann Reynolds; sister Norma and husband Jack Shafer; sister-in-law Carolyn Swallow; as well as numerous other beloved family members and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; brother Leroy Swallow; and brother Charles Smith.
Arthur served in the U.S. Army for over 22 years and was stationed in the United States, Germany and Korea. During his service in the armed forces he received the following medals: National Defense Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was stationed in San Antonio the longest and considered it home. After retiring and returning to Texas he and his wife moved to the Hill Country.
Graveside Services with full military honors will be held at 1:15 on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
