Ann Stone was the youngest child of Victor Vatzlavick and Loretto Robinson Vatzlavick in Annaville (Corpus Christi), Texas. After graduating from Incarnate Word Catholic School, she attended Del Mar College.
She met Calvin Ernest Stone, a young Marine from Plattsburgh, NY, when he was stationed at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. They were married on January 21, 1961 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Violet, TX.
After leaving active duty with the Marines, Cal went to work in the natural gas and oil industry, which had the family moving several times to different cities around Texas. They finally settled in the San Antonio area where Ann took a job teaching girls’ PE at Rose Garden Elementary School in Universal City. Later, Cal encouraged her to finish her degree. In 1986, she graduated from UTSA with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught 2nd Grade at Harmony Elementary for many years in the East Central School District. She and her son, Mark, both taught there for four years together.
Ann was a very giving person, active at her church, Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Schertz, TX. She was loving and kind to everyone she ever met. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Virginia Rainosek and Mary Loretta Pavelka, and niece, Patricia Pavelka Pfiester. She is survived by her sons, Mark and his wife, Cheryl (Poth, TX), Dennis (Schertz, TX), grandsons, Colin (Schertz, TX) and James (Little Elm, TX), brother, Victor Vatzlavick, Jr. and his wife, Margaret Ann, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. “Aunt Annie” will be greatly missed.
