Ann Sanford

February 7, 1926 — January 2, 2021

Ann “Nancy” Patrick Sanford (94) was the daughter of George and Ann Hawkes, born in Edinburgh, Scotland on February 7th 1926. At 14 she became a furrier apprentice. At 18 she became a full time furrier. Nancy worked and raised two children from a previous marriage on her own up until she met and married Chief Warrant Officer No.2 Floyd O. Sanford on May 8th 1965.  Soon after Nancy left her home in Scotland for America. Where her new military life gave her the opportunity to travel the country and different parts of the world. Spending a couple of years in Alaska, Germany, Virginia and finally putting down roots in Universal City, Texas. Where she spent the remainder of her life surrounded by family and friends.  Nancy belonged to the British Wives Club where she had the opportunity to meet a group of very special ladies. They remained friends their entire lives. The thing she loved to do most was to volunteer. To spend time at Audie Murphy Hospital with the disabled veterans, handing out poppies in front of the PX/BX, to help prepare and serve food at any function for the American Legion Post 667. She worked in the day care industry for the remainder of her career where she was affectionately know as “Miss Nancy” by all the children and childhood family friends. Miss Nancy … always with a sweet smile and a hug.  Nancy had a long, happy, healthy life and drifted away peacefully in her sleep. She found this poem quite comforting when a friend passed away in 2005 she ask that we share it when she passed. In her hand writing in the corner of a remembrance card it just says, “for mine.”

When I Must Leave You
by Helen Steiner Rice

When I must leave you for a little while.
Please do not grieve and shed wild tears.
And hug your sorrow
to you through the years,
But start out bravely with a gallant smile;
And for my sake and in my name.
Live on and do all things the same.
Feed not your loneliness on empty days.
But fill each waking hour in useful ways.
Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer.
And I in turn will comfort
you and hold you near;
And never, never be afraid to die;
For I am waiting for you in the sky!

Nancy is survived by two daughters from her first marriage; Marion Galbraith and Alice (Lesley) McFarland. Proceeded in death by her husband Floyd and survived by her son Scott and wife Tammy; daughter Sandra Piech and husband Michael. Nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by three brothers George, Lesley and Ronald.
