Andrew Lee Harrison, Sr.

April 11, 1936 — March 28, 2025

Tyler

It is with a heavy heart that I regret to inform you of the passing of Andrew Lee Harrison Sr., after a long struggle with health issues on Mar 28th of this year at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas, he left us to be with his lord and savior to the next evolution of his life. In his final moments he was surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife Eunice and one child, a son named Andrew Jr.

Born on April 11, 1936 in Tyler, Texas to Essie Mae Harrison and William Carwell, and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, he would then go on to join the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and retire in 1977 from Petersen AFB in Colorado Springs, CO. During that time, he would meet Eunice Hayward while stationed at Kindley AFB in Bermuda. They would marry in May of 1963 and welcome a baby boy named Andrew Lee Harrison Jr. just over a year later. He would move often, including living in many countries including England, Germany, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Iran, and Vietnam. He was forced to leave Iran with the fall of the Shah in 1979. He would then go on to work as a contractor at Kelly AFB for 20 years.

He was a graduate of Wayland Baptist University. He was very involved in Martial Arts and Community service. His Martial Arts accomplishments include attaining a 2nd degree black belt in Judo and helping to create the Martial Art call Jai Yen Yen. In 1969 he won the Pacific Armed Forces (PACAF) Judo championship. His community service included the Texas State Guard, in which he attained the rank of Lt. Colonel and he helped to establish a chapter of the National Association of Black Veterans (NABVETS) in Texas.

I would like to extend a very special “Thank You!” to the amazing people at BAMC for all their help during his final days and moments. Their explanation of things and understanding was of great help. I would also like to thank the members of NABVETS for their help as well as Mr. Duke Sharifbey. A special shout out needs to be given to Mr. Robert Gibson and his wife Neelu, Ms. Pat Harrison of Dallas, Tx, Ms. Yolanda Gail Harrison of Los Angeles, CA, Ms. Harrietfey Harrison, Ms. Barbara Ann Taylor, and to Arbin Harrison, for all their help and assistance during this trying time.
