With much sadness we announce the passing of Alberto H. Martinez, Our beloved father, brother, uncle and cousin to many. He fought a long hard battle with diabetes for many years and passed peacefully at the age of 75 on September 14, 2024.
Albert was born in Galveston, Texas on January 26, 1949. He was the first born son of Joe and Rosa Martinez. Albert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Ann (Anna) and son Joseph. His younger brother, Eugene also preceded him one year ago on September 20, 2023. Albert's parents and his in-law, David and Josephine Gomez have also preceded him in death.
Albert wore many hats throughout his long life. His favorite was Husband and father. He started working at the young age of 14 selling newspapers, shining and even selling shoes. He worked in Schertz with the Rock Quarry for many years until it closed. After that he struggled to find work at the age of 60. He found a job as a ranch hand working for the Eric White Family. He was so happy doing what he loved, tending to farm animals, maintaining the lawn around the home, and hunting wild game that could harm the cattle. He loved the job and worked until he had his 1st stroke at age 6o. At the early age of 4, he accompanied his father in Galveston to a pawn shop and was shot accidentally with a rifle by a stranger who was not aware it was loaded. He escaped death but lost partial eyesight and lived with pellets that were too dangerous to remove. He struggled in school but never gave up. He attended Ball High School and finally graduated in 1970. As an adult he worked in Galveston as a driver for a mechanical parts store.
After moving with his family to Corpus Christi he worked for Budweiser Company. He met the love of his life in Corpus and married her a year later. They moved back to Schertz where he raised their 3 children. He and Anna had Joseph, Katherine and Albert Jr. He leaves three sisters, Angie Perez, San Antonio, Nellie Hernandez of Corpus Christi, and Diane Godines of Alice, Texas. He also leaves 2 special nieces who traveled to be with him during his last days, JoAnne Munoz (Guadalupe) and Roseanne (Joe) Cardenas. He has many cousins that were very dear to him.
The family wishes to thank Rick and Caryn Gomez, for the special care Caryn provided to both Anna and Albert as they struggled with their long term illnesses.
