Albert Gabrysh

He cut the surly bonds of earth, put out his hand and touched the face of God on April 15, 2009. Albert John Gabrysh was born to John and Sophia Wresh Gabrysh on August 27, 1928 in Coupon, Pennsylvania. Beloved husband of Ester Gabrysh, Gabe retired from the United States Air Force in July 1970 after serving his Country for 23 years. While in the Air Force, he served as a duty pilot, electrical engineer and NATO interpreter. He began a second career as a college professor at St. Phillips College and retired after 16 years as a Professor Emeritus and then went out to teach math in the Fashion Merchandising Program at the University of Incarnate Word. Albert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ester Lea Caperton Gabrysh; daughter Brenda Lea Elbel and husband Michael, daughter Karen Diane Rose, and daughter Gail Patricia Gabrysh; grandchildren, Lisa Suzanne Rose, Patrick Norman Elbel and wife, Cassandra Cassie , Cynthia Lea Elbel, Stephanie Annette Bumgarner and husband, Roy, Savannah Marie Tamayo and husband, Barak; great grandchildren Kalab Rose, Elijah Rose, Kennedy Rose, Ian Wolf, Caimen Lee Wolf, Sierra Lea Wolf, Anyka Bumgarner. Survivors also include his sisters Josephine and husband John Stanislawczyk and Sophie Tootsie Marie and husband Edward Pierkowsky of Johnstown, Pennsylvania and numerous nephews and nieces in the Johnstown and Altoona, Pennsylvania area. Albert was preceded in death by his mother, Sophie Wresh Gabrysh and his father, John Michael Gabrysh and his great grandson Ashton Gabe Trepagnier Wolf and Baby Tamayo. Holy Rosary will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Schertz, TX on Monday, April 20 at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held on April 21 at 12:30 pm at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Schertz, TX. Interment with full military honors will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on April 21 at 2:30 pm. Those who wish to honor Albert Gabrysh can do so by making a contribution to the University of the Incarnate Word Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers.
