Albert Edward Flachsbarth

Career Soldier and friend to many, Lieutenant Colonel Retired Albert “Skip” Flachsbarth, 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends at his home in Garden Ridge, Texas on January 17, 2024 after a courageous battle with Cancer. Skip’s love of life will not end with his death.  All those who called him friend continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest, just as he did.

In 1955, Skip was born in Omaha, Nebraska to his parents Albert and Marie Flachsbarth.  He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School.  His service to his nation started right after high school when he enlisted in the Army as a UH-1 Huey Helicopter Crew Chief where he reached the rank of Sergeant.  After getting out of the Army and going to college, he returned to active duty as an officer in the field of Patient Administration. Skip was the ultimate patriot, serving his country with distinction including two combat tours; Operation Desert Storm in Iraq and in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.  He finished his career as a Lieutenant Colonel with more than 26 years of exemplary service.

After retiring from the Army, Skip enjoyed his passions including cars, motorcycles, and being a member of the Black Bexar Scottish Band.  He also loved all things associated with the renaissance period.  Skip loved to attend many annual Renaissance Festivals throughout the year. He even designed and built a house that resembles a castle on a hill. A spiritual man, Skip became a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He believed in getting involved with his community and served 3 years on the board of his Property Owners Association, thus giving back to the housing area he loved.  

Skip is survived by only a few extended family members still in the Omaha area.  He also has many friends that he would consider family in Texas, Nebraska and other locations where he served his country.

There will be a funeral service held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 10:00am at the Schertz Funeral Home on 3009 in Schertz, Texas, with a Visitation starting at 9:00 AM.   In lieu of flowers, Skip would appreciate a donation in his name made to the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
